Why We Were Excited

Why wouldn't we be? The movie was awesome, and the opportunity to lead Bond first-person style is one we had been dying for. GoldenEye featured an amazing single player game, with different tasks depending on how tough you made the game, and a multiplayer mode that helped put the Nintendo 64 on the map. We tend to agree with those that feel that, even with the next-generation consoles, GoldenEye still reigns supreme.

Official Game Description

GoldenEye 007 brings the world's most famous secret agent, James Bond, to life on the Nintendo 64 -- complete with license to kill. Using the full power of the Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007 puts you right into 007's tux and bow tie in a first-person action spectacular. But there's more to it than just blowing away bad guys-- you will have to accomplish a variety of espionage objectives, like planting covert modems, copying top secret documents, and diverting the destructive course of the rogue GoldenEye satellite system.

GoldenEye 007 puts would-be double "O" operatives through the paces in 20 challenging missions, each with three different difficulty levels. With each difficulty level, the intelligence of your opponents increases and the complexity and number of objectives grows. Following and expanding on the storyline of the hit movie, GoldenEye, 007's missions span the globe; from a secret base in arctic Russia to the a giant satellite antenna cradle suspended over the steaming
jungles of Cuba.

While the actual game's budget is of course, Top Secret, Rare and Nintendo have spared no expense in creating one of the most immersive gaming experiences ever. To capture the atmosphere of the movie, the game's developers visited the movie sets several times during production to gather research materials. Rare's designers used photographs, movie footage and actual blueprints of the sets to create the complex level layouts. The result is one of the most
realistic 3-D, first-person games ever.

GoldenEye's detailed, realistic, three-dimensional environments dazzled gamers when this Pak first hit store shelves, and it continues to impress even today. Crawl through ventilation ducts, explore secret passages, even drive a tank-- you have full freedom to explore every location of each mission. While a single agent can enjoy GoldenEye 007, the excitement multiplies if you have more than one player involved. Grab a few extra N64 Controllers and hook up with some friends for some spy hunting action in GoldenEye 007's legendary multi-player mode. Up to four agents can enter one of 11 arenas for a spy-versus-spy duel to the finish. You'll have Q's entire arsenal of weaponry at your disposal as you attempt to terminate your adversaries. With a variety of different missions available even in multi-player mode, GoldenEye 007 has become the favorite party game for legions of video game fanatics.
